On se souviendra…


Mon intervention lors du vote sur le contrat du nouveau centre sportif – Ville de Mont-Royal


Lors de la séance extraordinaire du conseil municipal, tenue le lundi 28 avril 2025 à 8 h 30, j’ai voté en faveur de l’octroi du contrat pour le centre sportif, dans la version portée par le maire Peter Malouf.


Je l’ai fait avec réserve et lucidité, car à ce stade, il n’existait malheureusement plus d’autre option réaliste pour faire avancer le projet.


Je tiens à être claire : je soutiens la réalisation d’un centre sportif moderne pour notre communauté, comme tous les citoyens.


Mais ce que je continue de dénoncer, ce sont :

  • le manque de transparence

  • plus de quatre années de retard

  • les millions de dollars gaspillés

  • la perte (minimum a ce jour) de 1 500 m² par rapport au projet initial (version 2021)

  • l’absence d’estimation fiable des coûts réels à ce jour

  • l’incertitude sur l’impact fiscal réel pour les résidents, compte tenu d’une augmentation de la dette municipale

  • ainsi que des préoccupations importantes quant à la qualité de construction, associée au mode conception-construction choisi


Le contrat a été octroyé pour un montant de 89 413 617 $ (taxes incluses) au consortium ÉQUIPE SPORTS ET COMMUNAUTÉ VMR.

My Statement on the Vote Regarding the New Sports Center Contract – Town of Mount Royal


During the special meeting of the Town Council held on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., I voted in favor of awarding the contract for the new sports center, in the version proposed by Mayor Peter Malouf.


I did so with reserve and clarity, as at this stage, there was unfortunately no longer any realistic alternative to move the project forward.


Let me be clear: I fully support the construction of a modern sports center for our community, just like all citizens.


However, what I continue to denounce are:

  • The lack of transparency

  • More than four years of delays

  • Millions of dollars wasted

  • The loss (at a minimum, as of now) of 1,500 m² compared to the original 2021 version of the project

  • The absence of a reliable cost estimate to date

  • Uncertainty about the real tax impact for residents, in light of the municipality’s increased debt

  • And serious concerns regarding construction quality, given the design-build approach that has been chosen


The contract was awarded for a total of $89,413,617 (including taxes) to the consortium ÉQUIPE SPORTS ET COMMUNAUTÉ VMR.
