Une photo vaut mille mots… surtout quand elle est censurée.

Le 24 mai dernier, j’ai participé à l’inauguration du piano public sur la Place de la Gare à Ville Mont-Royal, un événement touchant et rassembleur rendu possible grâce à la générosité exceptionnelle de la famille Redding, que je tiens à remercier du fond du cœur. La musique, et surtout le piano, a une place intime dans ma vie — un rêve devenu réalité grâce à mon fils.
Le Journal Station Mont-Royal a publié une photo fidèle de l’événement : tous les participants sont visibles, y compris moi-même, en tant que seule conseillère municipale indépendante de Ville Mont-Royal. En revanche, dans le Journal officiel de la Ville, une version volontairement recadrée de la même scène a été publiée par le journaliste Martin C. Barry, coupant soigneusement ma présence du cadre. Une amputation significative de l’image de ma personne et de ma présence à l’événement!
Ce geste n’a rien d’anodin.
Il ne s’agit pas d’un oubli ou d’un choix esthétique. Il s’agit d’un acte délibéré de censure, une tentative de manipulation de la perception publique, un acte discriminatoire et d’exclusion. Le Journal de Ville Mont-Royal, censé informer tous les citoyens de manière neutre et équitable, agit ici comme un outil politique, effaçant ceux qui ne cadrent pas avec la ligne officielle.
Ce n’est pas la première fois que ce journal agit de manière partisane. Mais quand on en vient à gommer la réalité visuelle d’un événement communautaire, on franchit un seuil inquiétant. On nie la pluralité politique et on pratique l'exclusion. On tente de faire disparaître une voix indépendante élue démocratiquement. C’est une pratique qui porte atteinte à l’éthique journalistique et manque gravement de respect envers les citoyens.
La démocratie municipale mérite mieux.
Elle mérite des médias locaux qui informent, pas qui censurent.
Je tiens, par ailleurs, à remercier le Journal Station Mont-Royal pour son intégrité journalistique et pour avoir publié un compte rendu fidèle et respectueux de l’événement.

A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words… Especially When It’s Censored
Dear neighbours,
On May 24, I had the pleasure of attending the inauguration of the public piano at Place de la Gare in Town of Mount Royal — a heartfelt and unifying event made possible by the exceptional generosity of the Redding family, to whom I extend my deepest thanks.
Music — and especially the piano — holds a deeply personal place in my life, a dream I’ve been able to live through my son.
The Station Mont-Royal Journal published a faithful photo of the event, where all participants are visible — including myself, as the only independent Town Councillor in TMR.
However, in the official Town journal, a deliberately cropped version of the same scene was published by journalist Martin C. Barry, carefully cutting me out of the frame. A significant erasure of my image and presence at the event.
It is not a mistake, nor an artistic choice — it is a deliberate act of censorship, an attempt to manipulate public perception, a discriminatory and exclusionary act.
The Town of Mount Royal Journal, which is meant to inform all residents in a neutral and fair manner, is being used here as a political tool, erasing those who don’t align with the official narrative.
This is not the first time this journal has acted in a partisan manner. But when reality is visually erased from a community event, it crosses a troubling line.
It denies political plurality. It promotes exclusion. It seeks to erase an elected independent voice from the public sphere.
This kind of practice undermines journalistic ethics and shows a deep lack of respect toward the citizens it is supposed to inform.
Our local democracy deserves better.
It deserves media that inform — not censor.
I also want to extend my sincere thanks to the Station Mont-Royal Journal for its journalistic integrity and for publishing a faithful and respectful account of the event.
